About Nairs Society
Keralites are known for their habit of migration in search of greener pastures and many people belonging to Nair community too have migrated to various places outside Kerala. As a part of it many Nairs have migrated to and got settled in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is quite common for Nairs to keep up their identity wherever they live. There is no compromise on following the rituals and practices which are being passed through generations.
A few enthusiasts, under the leadership of present day General Secretary, Sri G. Suresh Kumar, thought about having an organization exclusively for Nairs living in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in order to uphold the culture and tradition of Nair community. Besides, such an organization can help its members to perform the rituals during special occasions such as birth, marriage and death. There was a need to help the community members who need support in various areas.
Keeping all these points in mind Nair Service Society, started functioning from 2005 with Sri Mohandas Nair as the first President and Sri G. Suresh Kumar as its first General Secretary in Hyderabad. Eventually it got registered under Andhra Pradesh Government in 2007 January.
Selfless efforts and dedicated work put forth by the office bearers and volunteers earned the confidence of the community members and it started developing gradually. At present, Hyderabad Nair Service Society, commonly known as NSS Hyderabad, has about 600 families enrolled in it as members. With support of the members and well wishers, NSS Hyderabad purchased space of its office and at present the organization functions from its own office at Bhoodevi Nagar, near Trimulgherry.
In order to maintain the rich culture and heritage of the community, NSS Hyderabad organizes Onam celebrations and Vishu celebrations every year. These celebrations will be filled with various cultural programs that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Nair community along with a Traditional Feast. As a practice of yester years, Karanavars (elders in the community) will be revered during these functions every year.
Apart from the celebrations, NSS Hyderabad extends its financial support to the members for hospitalization, treatments and for the education of their children. This support is limited to those who really deserve it and are really facing financial problems. Besides, the organization celebrates the birth anniversary of Mannathu Padmanabhan, leader of the community and the founder of Nair Service Society in Kerala by feeding poor people and sponsoring daily needs to many hapless children accommodated in different care homes.
Recently, Nair Service Society, Hyderabad started a Marriage Bureau to help the community members in finding suitable matches for their wards. Many community members have taken the help of this marriage bureau in the past.
